Gunung Rinjani was designated National Park by Ministry
of Forestry on May 23, 1997 covering area of 41,330 hectares. Administratively,
the Gunung Rinjani National Park area lying over 3 districts of
Lombok Island, West Lombok, East Lombok and Central Lombok. Gunung
Rinjani is Indonesia's second highest peak (3,726m). For the people
of Lombok, Sasak (adat Wetu Telu) and Balinese alike, the volcano
is revered as sacred place and the abode of gods. Within the spectacular
crater, the Segara Anak Lake is the destination of many pilgrims
who place offerings in the water and bathe away disease in the nearby
hot springs.
Gateway To Gunung Rinjani:
1. Senaru is a village located on the slopes of Mount Rinjani stretches
up a hillside Spur along a winding road above Bayan. It is a scenic
2.5 hours drive from Mataram.
2. Sembalun Lawang is a place belongs to East Lombok District located
at the high of 1,1 56m and very picturesque also a promise of spectacular
scenery, known as best way to reach peak of Mount Rinjani. It takes
3,5 hours drive from Mataram
What to See:
1. Sendang Gile waterfalls in Senaru, Traditional Village (Senaru
and Sembalun), Lake Segara Anak, Mount Baru Jari (new formed mount)
and hot spring.
2. Wildlife: Monkey (Long-tailed macaques, Silver Leaf and black
monkey), Koau Kiau, White Cockatoo, Eagle, Elk etc
3. Trees: Cemara Trees, Aloe Trees, Edelweiss, orchid etc.
Note:
Climbing is NOT advisable during the rainy season (November to March)
